Samsung launches digital wallet

Samsung has announced the launch of a digital wallet, enabling users of the firm’s Galaxy handsets to store digital information on a single platform.

Available at launch in six markets - France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK and the US -Samsung Wallet can be used to store the likes of payment and loyalty cards, digital keys, and boarding passes.

Later this year, the platform will also roll out support for official IDs like mobile driver’s licences and student IDs.

The wallet will include security from Samsung Knox, and will also take advantage of an open Galaxy ecosystem, allowing for additional integration with Samsung Blockchain Wallet to monitor cryptocurrencies as well as Samsung’s SmartThings, which can be used to unlock doors.

Providing users with ‘one-swipe’ access to their payment cards, the platform also integrates the functionality of Samsung Pass, an application which securely stores passwords for login to apps and services.

Jeanie Han, executive vice president and head of digital life, MX business at Samsung, said: “Samsung Wallet is bringing a new level of everyday convenience to mobile devices with a totally safe and secure environment for storing digital keys, cards and more.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to open ecosystems, we will continue to expand on the capabilities of Samsung Wallet by working closely with our trusted partners and developers.”
