MoJ awards direct debits contract to allpay

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has awarded its payment facilitation and collection contract to allpay.

The Herefordshire-based payment solutions provider will drive the MoJ’s channel shift towards direct debits, which it expects to realise significant cost savings.

Guaranteed for two years - with a two year extension option - the contract is potentially worth nearly £2 million in covering provision of payment cards, direct debit mandates and barcoded payment methods to facilitate payments to the various directorates, agencies and Arm’s Length Bodies (ALBs).

This includes - but is not limited to - Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS), Legal Aid Agency (LAA) and the Roadside Police.

The current contractual stakeholders are HMCTS for payment of court orders, Police Forces for Fixed Penalty Roadside Deposits and the LAA for collection of legal aid debt.

“Given the dynamic direction central and local government is taking on digital public service, the confidence shown by the MoJ in awarding allpay this major national contract shows we are quality assured partner to public service organisations toward sector-defining transformation," commented allpay managing director Tony Killeen.

The contract win strengthens a 12-year link between allpay and the MoJ, with allpay currently collecting more than £31 million on behalf of the department and processing more than 1.2 million transactions.
