All England Lawn Tennis Club and IBM launch AI features for Wimbledon 2025

The All England Lawn Tennis Club and IBM have unveiled new artificial intelligence-powered features designed to enhance fan engagement during The Championships, Wimbledon 2025.

The centrepiece innovation is 'Match Chat', an interactive AI assistant that will provide real-time insights and analysis during live singles matches. Fans can access the tool through the Wimbledon App and wimbledon.com, using either pre-written prompts or their own questions to receive immediate AI-generated responses and match analysis.

The assistant is capable of answering queries such as 'who has converted more break points in the match?' or 'who is performing better in the match?', offering enriched viewing experiences for tennis enthusiasts worldwide.

Match Chat utilises technologies built on watsonx Orchestrate, incorporating AI agents and large language models including IBM Granite. These systems have been specifically trained on Wimbledon's editorial style and tennis terminology. The feature will also be available post-match through IBM Slamtracker for select high-profile encounters.

Additionally, the existing 'Likelihood to Win' tool is receiving significant enhancements. The updated version will provide fans with projected win percentages that change dynamically throughout each game, based on comprehensive AI analysis of player statistics, expert opinion and match momentum.

The enhanced tool is built using IBM technologies including Red Hat OpenShift, which provides the underlying infrastructure to support the real-time data processing and analysis required for the dynamic win probability calculations.

Usama Al-Qassab, marketing and commercial director at the All England Club, said: "We are committed to providing fans with the best possible Wimbledon experience, whether they interact with us through TV, radio, digitally or within the grounds. The innovations we have introduced in recent years, driven by generative AI, in conjunction with IBM, allow us to provide more exciting ways for our hundreds of millions of fans around the world to interact with The Championships."

Jonathan Adashek, senior vice president of marketing and communications for IBM, said: "Solutions like Match Chat and Likelihood to Win show how AI on watsonx can deliver tennis fans the compelling real-time insight and match engagement they want around this historic tournament and its players. Our 35-year partnership with the All England Club is another example of how IBM helps clients unlock and achieve lasting value from their unique data using AI."

The Championships will run from 30 June to 13 July 2025, with both features accessible through the Wimbledon App and wimbledon.com via IBM Slamtracker.
