YouTube tests AI song creation tools with famous voices

YouTube has announced it is developing AI tools in collaboration with Google DeepMind which allow users to create content featuring the voices of famous pop stars.

In a blog post, YouTube said a feature called Dream Track offers users the chance to create short songs by describing features such as lyrics and mood.

Nine artists have given the video sharing website permission to use their voices, including Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, T-Pain and John Legend.

The feature is only currently available to around 100 users in the US and can only be used to provide a soundtrack to videos on YouTube Shorts, which is the platform’s rival to TikTok.

YouTube added it is also experimenting with Music AI tools with a selected group of music creators.

“Imagine being able to more seamlessly turn one's thoughts and ideas into music; like creating a new guitar riff just by humming it or taking a pop track you are working on and giving it a reggaeton feel,” YouTube said. “We’re developing prospective tools that could bring these possibilities to life and Music AI Incubator participants will be able to test them out later this year.”
