Vanquis boosts payment processing capabilities with new platform

Vanquis is boosting its digital transformation strategy as it integrates a new end-to-end platform to strengthen its payment processing capabilities.

Through a partnership with payments firm Fiserv, the UK bank has integrated an end-to-end platform that offers an embedded suite of payment solutions and a range of configurable and scalable features for digital payment options

Headquartered in Bradford, Vanquis describes itself as the UK’s largest specialist finance provider for financially underserved customers. The bank currently serves 1.69 million customers through core banking services and Snoop, a platform that helps individuals save up to £1,500 annually on spending and household bills.

The new payments platform is part of the bank’s gateway technology transformation programme, a multi-year initiative that seeks to modernise and digitise its technology infrastructure.

The programme is expected to deliver cost savings, improve scalability, and enhance the overall digital banking experience for customers.

The gateway programme is expected to be completed by mid-2026.

The platform leverages event-driven architecture (EDA), a software design pattern where systems react to changes or events rather than relying on explicit requests and responses, allowing to process real-time event data to provide customer insights and updates.

The technology supports various payment schemes and transaction types, including Visa and Mastercard.

With the move, the bank said it aims to simplify and improve payment processes while meeting evolving customer needs and preparing for future demands, offering a more personalised customer experience while moving away from older legacy systems.

“We’re building real momentum at Vanquis as we transform into a modern, digitally led bank positioned for long-term, profitable growth,” said Ian McLaughlin, chief executive of Vanquis. “Our gateway programme will give us a scalable, digital-first platform by mid-2026, and choosing to extend our successful partnership with Fiserv and to integrate its cloud-native, integrated suite of payment solutions is a game-changing step in that journey.”
