Spotify to announce ‘job cuts’

Spotify is planning to cut jobs this week, according to reports by Bloomberg.

The music streaming service is the latest technology firm to announce it is laying off staff, after Google owner Alphabet announced it would cut 12,000 jobs last week. Microsoft also said that it would let almost a fifth of its workforce go.

Spotify currently has around 9,800 employees but it is unclear how many of them will be laid off. Around 38 staff were let go from its Gimlet Media and Parcast podcast studios in October, according to the report from Bloomberg.

Spotify recently complained to the EU’s antitrust regulator about Apple’s ‘anticompetitive and unfair’ App Store practices. The streaming service was one of several signatories on a letter of an open letter calling on the EU to take ‘swift and decisive action’ against global gatekeepers.
