SnapChat rolls out 'ChatGPT-style' AI chatbot

SnapChat is rolling out a free chatbot similar to ChatGPT across its user base.

My AI has previously only been available to SnapChat+ subscribers, which the platform said has been sending almost two million chat messages per day for users to learn more about topics including pets, sports, and the natural world.

Features of My AI include the ability for users to share 'Snaps' with the chatbot and receive a chat reply and the ability to tag My AI in group chats to ask it a question on behalf of the group.

SnapChat concedes that the chatbot is currently “far from perfect” but said 99.5 per cent of My AI responses now conform to its community guidelines.

Since launch, SnapChat has been focused on programming My AI to help protect against responses that could be inappropriate or harmful and implementing an age signal that takes into account users’ birthdate so the chatbot will consistently take their age into consideration when generating results.

SnapChat is the latest in a line of tech companies that have begun rolling out AI-related platforms.

Amazon recently rolled out a new service designed for building and scaling generative AI platforms like ChatGPT, while Google has launched its own chatbot named Bard.
