Microsoft launches AI tool for Windows 11

Microsoft has announced the launch of an artificial intelligence (AI) for Windows 11 along with new surface devices and updates to other services.

The new AI tool, called Copilot, will work both as an app and across several Microsoft products including Bing and the Microsoft 365 suite.

Microsoft said that Copilot will be able to “incorporate the context and intelligence of the web” along with user data and what the user is doing on their device to provide assistance when required. It claims that the tool will be simple, secure and easy to use.

Copilot was released in July this year in a testing phase and will be rolled out more widely as part of updates to Windows 11 in the autumn.

Microsoft added that its Bing search will get OpenAI's DALL-E 3, an image-generating AI. OpenAI, which is backed by Microsoft, announced the launch of DALL-E 3 earlier this week.

Bing will also draw on a user’s search history to proactively provide information to users.

In a statement on its website Microsoft said:” We are entering a new era of AI, one that is fundamentally changing how we relate to and benefit from technology. With the convergence of chat interfaces and large language models you can now ask for what you want in natural language and the technology is smart enough to answer, create it or take action.”
