IBM extends partnership with BNP Paribas to boost operational resilience

BNP Paribas has extended its partnership with IBM for 10 years to strengthen its operational resilience, accelerate its cloud native strategy, and support the development of genAI tools.

BNP Paribas said the move is designed to provide uninterrupted continuity of banking services such as payments, whilst maintaining the security of customer data and the bank’s information systems.

The initiative is part of the bank’s practical implementation of the European Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), which requires all financial institutions to be operationally resilient in the areas of business continuity and IT risk management.

BNP Paribas said the development of this new cloud infrastructure will help the bank’s business continuity and protection of customer data.

The French bank has utilised IBM’s cloud technology since 2019, with it planning to dedicate a new area in its own data centres to IBM cloud by 2028.

The bank added that it its continuing it modernisation efforts and working on developing modular, scalable and portable applications to offer greater flexibility and responsiveness in managing banking services.

“We continuously invest in cutting-edge technologies to strengthen the resilience of our infrastructures and drive innovation for our clients, employees, and partners" said Marc Camus, chief information officer of BNP Paribas. "By combining GPUs as a service, a dedicated, state-of-the-art environment within our data centres, and a cloud-native infrastructure, we are strengthening our technological foundation, as well as the security and the compliance of our information systems."
