Google Cloud has announced the Gemini agent, a new unified agentic offering accessible via a single interface that the firm says will complete tasks from answering questions to generating code from a single prompt box.
The firm said Gemini can securely draw on enterprise context to complete tasks across collaboration software, desktop files, databases such as BigQuery, Databricks and Snowflake and enterprise platforms such as Salesforce and ServiceNow.
Gemini can now run multi-step tasks in a single interface, agent and API. It added that the Gemini agent is accessible via web, Android, iOS, Windows, macOS and any custom channel such as command lines or in productivity apps like Google Workspace, Slack or Microsoft 365.
The agent can also connect to model context protocol servers.
It additionally comes with a tools and skills registry that can be added to by teams within a company to share best practices across their organisation.
Because Gemini is run in the cloud, Google Cloud added it will retain persistent context across all user interactions, regardless of where they access it.
The Gemini agent is an orchestration layer, separate to Google’s Gemini model family, which switches between underlying models depending on the task at hand.
The Gemini agent currently supports Anthropic’s Claude models in addition to Google’s first-party offerings such as Gemini 4 Argon. It will expand to offer other open and private frontier models in the future.
Gemini can now also create a roster of ‘sub-agents’, temporary agents assigned with a specific task, to complete multi-step objectives. Google Cloud said Gemini will orchestrate these sub-agents in parallel for hours or days.
Enterprise users can also interact with Gemini agents as ‘coworkers’, with assigned responsibilities, persistent storage, and a dedicated email address in the format ‘@agents.company.com’.
Google Cloud added that Gemini agents inherit existing enterprise controls across identity, policy, budget and auditing. Each action an agent takes is also recorded, with a unique identifier allowing administrators to pinpoint which agent did what, and on behalf of which enterprise user.
Speaking live at the Gemini at Work 2026 event, Google Cloud’s chief executive Thomas Kurian said that Google Cloud’s customers are already making use of Gemini agents: “Accenture has stood up a dedicated Gemini business group, and several of our largest partners have made similar investments.
“Everything I showed you today already exists in someone's hands. Lloyds redefining commercial banking. A lawyer at Cooley protecting a client before a filing goes public. A satellite deciding for itself what is worth sending home.”
