Co-op becomes first UK retailer to partner with Deliveroo Express

British grocery retailer Co-op has partnered with Deliveroo Express in a UK first.

Deliveroo Express, which was launched in April, is a new white label tool from the delivery company which enables grocers and retailers to use its backend tech infrastructure and rider network to fulfil on-demand orders through their own website or app.

The move will mean that hundreds of Co-op stores across the UK will now be able to fulfil orders through the service in as little as 60 minutes.

It comes as Co-op reveals ambitions to grow to more than 30 per cent share of the UK quick commerce grocery market.

The retailer became Deliveroo’s first major grocery partner when it launched its grocery business in 2018.

Since then, the partnership has expanded, allowing customers to order Co-op groceries from the convenience retailer’s own online shop or through the Deliveroo platform from nearly 1,400 Co-op stores across the UK.

Deliveroo also recently launched Co-op’s membership benefits on the app, enabling Co-op members to benefit from member price savings on their orders through Deliveroo.

“Growing our quick commerce channel is a core part of our strategic approach, and I am delighted to build on our long-standing and successful partnership with Deliveroo," said Chris Conway, Co-op quick commerce director. "Working together we are focussed on meeting the evolving needs of shoppers.

"This includes making the fast and reliable delivery of Co-op groceries available to more communities and creating value through member price savings as we see consumer appetite for quick and convenient grocery delivery from their local Co-op continue to grow.”

The new service comes as around 86 per cent of the UK population now has access to Co-op groceries online through its online shop and strategic partners.

Deliveroo’s grocery business has seen strong growth since launch, reaching 16 per cent of gross transaction value (GTV) and reporting strong double digit growth in 2024.

The on-demand delivery platform partners with many leading UK supermarkets such as Morrisons, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Whole Foods, NISA, and Spar, as well as small independent businesses.

Suzy McClintock, VP of new verticals at Deliveroo, said: "We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with Co-op as they adopt our white label delivery solution, supporting fast and reliable on-demand deliveries through their existing website. Deliveroo Express is the next step in our mission to transform on-demand delivery, ensuring we remain the partner for growth, for grocers and retailers alike, helping them reach more consumers through their own online channels.”
