Bolt partners with Starship Technologies for robot powered grocery delivery

Bolt has partnered with Starship Technologies to deliver groceries using autonomous robots in Tallinn, Estonia.

Starship’s robots will transport deliveries ordered through the Bolt Food app to customers in the capital as part of a pilot programme.

Bolt currently offers ride-hailing, micromobility, and food and grocery delivery services to over 100 million users in 45 countries and 500 cities globally.

The new service will see deliveries picked up by the robots from three Bolt Market stores in Tulika, Pallasti and Mustika.

Bolt Market is an online food market, offering a range of products, including fresh produce, pantry staples, household essentials, and more.

Customers in Tallinn can now place a Bolt Market order using their Bolt Food app, choose ‘robot delivery’ as their delivery option, and unlock the delivery robot on arrival with the platform to grab the items from the robot’s compartment.

Bolt said the partnership aims to provide a broader range of delivery options that can accommodate different order sizes, preferences and distances.

It added that it is planning to expand the collaboration to include a larger customer base across more cities.

Jevgeni Kabanov, Bolt’s President, said: “Both Bolt and Starship have created innovative products which have revolutionised the way people move around and buy and receive goods in cities.”

The firm added that the robots are electrically powered, renewing the firm’s commitment for sustainable choices.

Alastair Westgarth, chief executive of Starship Technologies, said:“Bolt and Starship share very similar goals of promoting sustainability in local transport. In our case, we offer a convenient and on-demand autonomous delivery service, perfectly aligning with the mission of making cities more eco-friendly.”

Starship’s robots have completed over seven million deliveries worldwide, and they are able to carry up to three shopping bags and deliver within a three-kilometre radius of stores.
